SLASHER U ACT 1 WALKTHROUGH/HINTS

What's good, Student Disembody!! This guide to unlocking the romances & main quest phases contains A LOT OF FUCKING SPOILERS, but I tried my best to keep secrets secret! Let me know if you have any questions! <3

This guide is for the BETA VERSION OF ACT 1: V7.0011!

**********This guide does NOT include SIDE QUESTS, STORY VARIATIONS (e.g. changes in NPC dialogue based on choices or player personality, story changes based on whether you're dating someone or not) or STORY CHOICES and their consequences (e.g. getting Tate elected Prom King & dealing with the fallout).************

[DEFAULT CONTROLS] 

Arrow Keys = Move

Space Bar/Enter = Select

Use item in Inventory (including putting outfits on and off) = Space Bar

Interact with Stuff on the Map = Space Bar (you might have to be facing some stuff to interact with it, like posters)

[HOW FEELINGS WORK]

Basically, each character keeps a running tally of feelings: Story choices (like Prom dates, unlocking items, having conversations and choosing certain options, learning secrets about them, etc), # of kisses, # of dates, # of times sex'ed, +/- Character Points, the amount of Similarity or Dissimilarity (goes both ways!), your actual personality (Hex loves fellow juggalos, Laila hates art-haters, etc), your character's hidden  personality stats that get accumulated through choices and interactions (Coolness, Hotness, Evasiveness, etc - Laila falls for Smarts and Juno falls more for Hotness, etc), and certain other secret events, all add up to create a character's Feelings Score, which is basically how much they like you. This can change over time, and different memories/stats/aspects have different weight!

You can manually affect this by using items in the game to try and sway opinions - Axe body spray will make Hex like you more as long as you're wearing it (but Laila hates it), etc.

You ALSO earn normal +/- Character Points by conversing, selecting conversation options that they like or dislike, and so on.

[STATS]

These are usually secret, but if you're feeling more X than usual, it'll be on your About character page (e.g. "You're feeling HOTTER than usual!" in light green text). There are 6 secret Stats: HOTNESS, COOLNESS, BRAINS (Smarts), WILD CARD, NICE GUY, & EVASIVENESS. You earn these secretly from inventory items, interacting with items on the map, choices, and obviously you can use Drinks and other labeled items to affect them! NPCs also have these hidden stats, too, and theirs can change based on story events as well.

[FRIENDSHIP THRESHOLDS]

There are 3 invisible numbers that basically mark different levels of friendship - one basic, one deep, one intense. If an NPC's Feelings hit beyond a threshold mark, stuff will generally happen! There's a secret THIRD level of Advanced Friendship that unlocks stuff that's numbers 1 & 2 added together. This isn't the only way stuff triggers in the game - just an easy way to keep track of general advancement!

You can generally tell how much someone likes you by how their character portrait appears on their Relationships card.

[MAKEOUTS & HOOKUPS]

Making out with a character at least ONCE, anywhere, anytime, unlocks their Makeout Minigame under Actions when you talk to them. Hooking up with a character at least once, anywhere, anytime, unlocks their Hookup Minigame under Actions. Each character has a unique Makeout and Hookup minigame, with at least one extra layer/twist.

• Hex has a second BDSM Hookup minigame (see below)
• Juno has 3+ hookup minigame layers to unlock, plus an extra item
• Tate has an Extra Horny layer you can unlock each time you hook up
• Laila's Hookup minigame has two main variants you can try for each time, Good Boy/Girl/Enby or Bad Boy/Girl/Enby. Your choices are cumulative and Laila tends to remember which way you lean.
• Sawyer's Hookup minigame has gated BDSM options like specific dirty names, knifeplay, and so on (he also has a TON of consent/safeword checks). He'll remember your choices permanently.

[MAIN QUEST]

(I tried to be AS SPOILER FREE AS POSSIBLE!)

To progress to Chapter 2: Activate all 4 main quest cutscenes, currently located in: the Town Forest (Hex), Cinema (Sawyer, Veronika),  Campus Set (Tate, Juno), and Library (Laila). *You'll need to have met the characters involved in the cutscene before they'll trigger!*

Once you've hit all 4 cutscenes, head to the Dean and express your concern over the campus goings-on. That'll progress you to CHAPTER 2, and on to Prom season!

To get through PROM SEASON and to end Act 1's main story, you need to do all 3 of the following:

• Go to Prom successfully, and
• [HUGE FUCKING SPOILERS] Get Professor Plutonium to spill the beans on life under the Hays Code at Slasher U. To do this, you can read about the Hays code by checking out the book in the projector room (don't forget to actually read it by using it in your inventory).
• [HUGE FUCKING SPOILERS, OPTIONAL] Figure out the Hays Code/Hays Society connection by reading both the book AND the part of the 1968 Gossip Ghoul advertising the Society (upper right corner of computer lab, insert floppy into a lab computer, read the Classifieds of the floppy).

You can ALSO continue learn more about the main mystery beyond the above, in preparation for Act 2, by talking to people - hint, hint.

**Since this is ACT 1 of a 3-Act game: the Main Quest ends just after Prom! The world continues on, though, so you can keep playing in a post-Prom Slasher U (canonically).

[PROM]

You can ask any romanceable character to Prom, and they'll say yes, if they like you enough! Tate and Sawyer both have special prom-posal scenes if they like you enough, too. To get to Prom, simply buy a Prom ticket, and meet your date outside the cinema at night!

There's different endings for each main character if you vote them Prom Royalty (with variations depending on if you're their date or not); Tate has 2 endings, and Sawyer, while ineligible to be voted, has a special voting quest. Each main character, as well as Ashleigh and Covington, may cast a vote. You can talk to everyone to convince them to vote for certain people, and you'll have to complete unique roleplaying challenges to succeed. If you find you're not COOL or HOT or WILD CARD-y enough, you can (hint hint!) head to the bar for drinks that will help!

To advance through Prom, get at least 3 people to vote for any character, which will unlock your date's slow dance sequence (automatically starts). You can also cast a vote yourself by interacting with the voting box on the table in the upper left. To finish up, you can either get everyone to cast a vote, OR use the box to trigger an early vote. You can ALSO trigger the Prom vote at any time, or leave Prom early (story consequences apply!)

To Carrie someone (like in the movie), go upstairs to the projector room at Prom and interact with the bucket. Go back downstairs, and talk to Juno, who has the pig's blood you need. Go back upstairs, interact with the bucket again to fill it, and you're ready to roll! Yes, this DEFINITELY has story/favor consequences.

[SAWYER]

To start Sawyer's romance: Get Sawyer to like you enough to unlock the "So... what do you like in a guy/gal/partner?" option in conversation. Agree to be pursued, and he'll randomly show up to make out/stab you around campus. Doing this once unlocks his Makeout minigame. Make out with him at least 3 times at any location/event to get him to ask you to his BDSM shindig. At the BDSM party, get Sawyer horny enough by interacting with the assorted objects, talking to people, or flirting, to get him to snap, and ask if you wanna fuck. Agree, to progress the romance (doesn't matter if you spend the night or not! He's cool like that!).

If you ever want Sawyer to STOP pursuing you (serially, not romantically), just ask him under his Actions!

Sawyer is the one of two characters with a Prom-posal - to unlock it, make sure you're in Prom season, make sure he likes you enough, then walk from the Fountain down towards the Admin building (you'll know it when you see it - TRUST me).

To unlock Sawyer's personal quest: Sleep with him at least 3 times, and, if he likes you enough, he'll send you a text asking you to meet him at DIK. If you do, he'll take you on a super secret special date!

To get Sawyer to like you: Be smart, excited about horror/slashing/academics, and manage to balance a golden heart with a revered unhinged arsonist-style passionate abandon for knifecrime and murder (on either the slasher or slash-ee side).

Items/Stats that affect Sawyer's feelings: Branding Iron, Hotness, Wild Card, Nice Guy

Full list of things that affect Sawyer's feelings [MASSIVE SPOILERS]: Letting him pursue you, having his name branded on your ass (this is my favorite dev note. This right here.), knowing about him and Horsemike, finding out he's into exhibitionism, learning about Guinevere Ranch, finding out his dad is a lawyer too, telling him I Love You, doing his Prom Quest to get someone else elected, being his Prom Date, being his partner, being his ONLY partner, talking to him at the convenience store, kisses, bodycount, date count, Hotness, Wild Card, Nice Guy, texting him back after he texts you/after you send him texts, regular conversation options

[HEX]

To start Hex's romance: During/After Prom Season (when the Gym's on the map), enter the Gym at least three times to unlock each Hex romance cutscene (he has to like you enough each time to unlock - it gets harder!). Second cutscene unlocks the Makeout Minigame, third cutscene unlocks the Hookup Minigame. After the second cutscene, Hex will invite you to the Underwater Gatsby Party (his Act 1 date night). Hex has a second, more BDSM-core hookup minigame that can also be unlocked (see below).

To unlock Hex's personal quest: He has to like you enough (above Friend Threshold 1 and 2 combined), PLUS you need to be his Partner (doesn't matter if it's exclusive or not).

To unlock Hex's second Hookup minigame: Do at least one hardcore/BDSM/top-ey move to Hex during hookups. He'll approach you outside your dorm and ask if you want to do it again!

You can flirt/romance Hex a LOT before the "official start" if you get him to like you enough; basically speedrunning Hex means getting him to like you enough to unlock his Makeout Minigame (talk to him at night at DIK to find the option), make out with him enough to ask him to have sex, then, while having sex, do at least one BDSM/hardcore move to unlock his extra BDSM layer.

To get Hex to like you: Generally be nice and understanding. He's a simple dude with a big heart. He looooves feeling pretty, trusting people, feeling trusted, and (aside from normal Temp items like the Axe spray) has 3 giftable items that'll jack up his feelings meter (and also double as cosmetic items during Hookup minigames). Oh yeah - and he LOVES being spanked. (;.

[TATE]

To start Tate's romance: Get him to like you enough to unlock the "will you walk me back to my dorm?" convo option. Make out with him at least 3 times, to be able to invite him upstairs for some good ol'fashioned boinking next time you ask him to walk you to your dorm, which will unlock the Hookup minigame. Tate's hookup minigame has an Extra Horny layer that unlocks each time based on your actions during the minigame.

Tate is the one of two characters with a Prom-posal - to unlock it, make sure you've encountered Tate in the coffee shop and he's liked you enough to buy you a coffee. Come back during Prom Season, and, if you've hit his second friendship threshold, he'll buy you another coffee... and ask you to Prom afterwards!

To unlock Tate's personal quest: He has to like you enough (above Friend Threshold 1 and 2 combined), PLUS you need to know about Dark Tate, PLUS you need to be Tate's partner (doesn't matter if it's exclusive or not).

To get Tate to like you: Being vulnerable, weird, honest, and generally super into horror will do the trick. Don't be afraid to be too forward with the guy. ;) He's also a MASSIVE cinephile, so anything A/V or movie related, actions or convo wise, will go great.

Items/Stats that affect Tate's feelings: Loose cigarette, Precious Locket, Frankendick, Hotness, Smarts, Wild Card

[LAILA]

To start Laila's romance: She'll randomly appear with a 33% chance in one of her favorite places (currently: Library, Coffee Shop, Forest), some of them only at night. Talk to her and she'll ask if you can walk her home. Walk her back to AAA and you can decide to go in for a kiss; if she likes you enough she'll agree and unlock her Makeout Minigame. Walk her home 3 times, and on the 3rd time, she'll invite you upstairs, which unlocks her Hookup minigame!

To unlock her Personal Quest: Ironically she's the easiest - she has to like you enough (above Friend Threshold 1 and 2 combined), you don't need to be her partner.

To get Laila to like you: Laila has the MOST possible ways to get negative Points, so you better be on your game (; Laila likes classiness, strong opinions, and confidence, BUT that goes both ways. Big dumb confident classless idiots may win her heart just as easily as super suave types. Laila's obviously a lady in the streets and a top in the sheets, so be real romantic to her and she'll be whacking you against a wall (classy-ly) in no time. She respects intelligent nuanced opinions, and gets mad when you blindly agree with her outside of the bedroom.

[JUNO]

To start Juno's romance: Reach a baseline level of Friendship with them, then  approach them at DIK at night. Ask to buy them a drink, & if they like you enough, you'll unlock their Makeout Minigame. OR: Find them in one of the following places (33% of appearing): Outside the library, coffee shop at night, forest; talk to them and if they like you enough, they'll hit on you & ask to make out. Make out with them 3 times, and, on the 3rd time, if they like you enough, they'll ask to hook up! Unlock each layer of the Hookups by having them suggest them during hookup times using the "What do YOU want to do...?" option.

To unlock their Personal Quest: They have to like you enough (above Friend Threshold 1 and 2 combined), PLUS you need to know about their hometown/have talked to them about it.

To get Juno to like you: Be either fun enough to keep up with them OR be tsundere enough that they want to take on a wild ride. Juno's got the meanest streak and you can influence them to like you by matching that OR convincing them to be quote-unquote better in a non-condescending way.
